ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper-Active Disorder) :  Your Questions Answered

Coach Barbara Desmarais interviews Dr. Rory Stern of www.thetruthbehindadhd.com and www.adhdfamilyonline.com

- How can a parent distinguish between what is just a normal, very active child to one who might have ADHD?
- Does diet play a role in ADHD?
- Why is the label ADHD so wide spread today?
- Do some children who are diagnosed with ADHD, don't actually have it?
- Is medication always the answer?

In this 50 minute interview, you will learn the answer to all of these questions and more.  Dr. Stern is a parenting coach with an educational background in both coaching and psychology. As a child he was given the label “gifted and talented”. He discusses how many of the characteristics he had were similar to those of children diagnosed with ADHD.  You will love Dr. Stern's common sense approach and passion for children.  His methods address the notion that every child is unique and we can't compare one with another.  You'll look at your ADHD child differently after you listen to this recording.

From Toddlers to Teens: 35 Tried and True Parenting Tips

Are you wondering if your expectations are reasonable? Do you yell only because you don’t know what else to do? Do you wish there was an easy way to get your kids to pick up their toys? Do you think your teen is going to turn into useless, unproductive adult? Do you wonder why your pre-teen is suddenly rude and disrespectful?

For less than the cost of a movie, or about the cost of a sandwich you can find the answers to all of these questions. I’ve put together a tips book that can be easily read while you’re in a waiting room. They’re what I consider to be the most important things to know in all the different age groups; from toddlers to teens. Here are a few examples:

"Try to avoid tantrums by not giving in to demands. If you give in, you’re likely to get a tantrum every time you’re child can’t get what she/he wants. Also make sure your toddler is well rested, well fed and not over-stimulated. Any or all of those factors can bring on a tantrum.

"Preschoolers want power and control. Give it to them when it’s appropriate by offering choices. Say: “Do you want the red cup or the green cup?” or “Do you want to wear this top or that top?” “Do you want your sandwich cut in two or four?”

"Find something positive to say to your child everyday. When you focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses, it helps them to gain confidence and like who they are."

I understand that parents often don’t have time to read through a 300 page parenting book. It’s not that you don’t want to learn, it’s that you don’t have a lot of spare time. I get that. Sometimes all you need is a few tried and true tips at your fingertips. I’ve put together this little book with you in mind.

What can you buy for under $10 that provides a lot of value? This little book is only $7.95 and gives you easy to follow tips you can implement immediately. If you disagree, please let me know and I’ll send you a refund.

ASL for Babies: Level 1

Did you know that preverbal babies can learn to communicate long before they can talk? This manual provides you with 80 simple signs that babies as young as 6 months can begin to learn. The order is chosen only to match their typical early vocabulary. I invite you and your baby to enjoy the beautiful language of signs.

In 2002, the Deaf Children Society of British Columbia contracted me to teach what they were calling: "Baby Sign" and showed me the program Joseph Garcia had created called "Sign with Your Baby". I was confident that with my Early Childhood Education background, my experience of raising young children, and my over 25 years as a signer, that I could create something myself. As a Parent Educator, I was also excited about leading a group that brought parents and babies together to meet other parents and learn something new. I remember when I was a young mom, I was eager to sign up for anything where I could meet other parents and offer some fun and stimulation to my baby.

When I first began my classes, parents frequently asked for pictures of the signs so they could go home and practice. My step-son Roger is an excellent artist and is also deaf ,so I thought who better to approach to illustrate the 80 signs I was teaching? The result is this little manual.

Raise Your Children but Not Your Voice

Praise for Raise Your Children But Not Your Voice:

In her first parenting e-book, Raise Your Children But Not Your Voice, parenting expert Barbara Desmarais puts her 17 years of education, training and parenting to good use. In this well-organized, attractive e-book, Desmarais shares a multitude of solid parenting tips and success secrets. At the same time, she is careful to point out that each child is different, and her suggestions should be applied as appropriate to each individual child.

This insightful, easy-to-read e-book includes tips for childproofing your environment, offering choices, and effectively communicating with your child. The parenting expert continues with more in-depth advice in her discussions of logical and natural consequences, acknowledging positive behavior, and focusing on what really matters. Desmarais completes her advice by explaining the importance of taking care of the child’s parent (aka YOU) and not feeling guilty for having to say “no.”

"Whether you are a veteran parent or an anxious mom-to-be, Desmarais’ parenting guide is a great, abbreviated version of tried and true techniques to get through to your child. You’ll be sure to love this Reader’s Digest version of Parenting 101. Don’t miss this one – it’s a must have for any parent!"
